Closed-Die (Impression-Die) Forging

Closed-die forging forms the part between matched dies, giving near-net shape, tight repeatability, and the best grain flow for safety-critical components. It is the process of choice for connecting rods, gears, shafts, links, hooks, and flanges in recurring volumes. Our forged connecting rods in 40Cr and 42CrMo4 illustrate the standard: quenched and tempered to HRC 28–35, delivering ≥1,080 MPa tensile and ≥930 MPa yield strength (42CrMo4) with ≥63 J room-temperature impact toughness — then machined to ±0.10 mm center distance, ±0.02 mm big-end bore, ±0.01 mm small-end bore, and Ra 0.4–1.6 μm bearing surfaces. Rod weights from 50 kg to 3,000 kg cover mechanical presses, crusher drive trains, and process equipment. QT400-18 ductile iron serves low-speed, light-duty alternatives where cost rules.

Open-Die Forging

For large shafts, rings, discs, blocks, and low-volume or oversized parts, open-die forging works the billet between flat or simple-profile dies — no dedicated tooling cost, full flexibility on dimensions. Open die is the economical answer for heavy machinery shafts, rolling mill rolls, large flanges, and one-off replacements where a closed die would never pay back. Step shafts, hollow forgings, and upset-forged sections are produced to your specifications with machining allowances agreed up front.

Materials We Forge

  • Alloy steels — 40Cr, 42CrMo4 / 4140-type and equivalents for high-fatigue drive components: connecting rods, gears, crankshafts, axles.

  • Wear and specialty grades — on request, matched to your working condition and heat-treatment requirement.

Every heat of steel is verified against its mill certificate, and chemical composition is confirmed before forging begins.

Heat Treatment & Machining

Forging is only half the property story — heat treatment writes the rest. Quench-and-temper (HRC 28–35 for alloy drive components), normalizing, annealing, and case-hardening routes are applied per material and service requirement. In-house CNC machining finishes bores, bearing seats, threads, and faces to drawing tolerances, so the part arrives ready to assemble — no second supplier, no tolerance arguments between forge and machine shop.

Quality Assurance

Forgings fail in service when the process is trusted blindly, so we verify instead: chemical composition per heat, dimensional inspection to drawing, hardness testing after heat treatment, and ultrasonic testing for critical sections on request. Forging Processes & Equipment

Every forging starts with the right preform. Steel billets and ingots are saw-cut to weight, induction- or furnace-heated to forging temperature, then formed by press or hammer. Closed-die work runs on forging presses with matched tooling designed and maintained in-house — die life is tracked, and worn dies are reconditioned before they drift out of tolerance, not after. Upsetting, piercing, bending, and sizing operations complete the preform-to-part route. Flash is trimmed hot; parts are normalized or slow-cooled as the grade requires. For open-die work, skilled operators manipulate the workpiece between flat, V, and swaging dies to build shafts, rings, and stepped profiles to generous machining allowances — the flexibility that makes open die the right answer for large or low-volume parts.

Tooling for repeat jobs is archived with full traceability: reorder the same part two years later and it comes off the same die set, to the same drawing revision.
